WD2000: Incorrect Bookmark Names for Form Fields in Vertical Table Cells (249858)

SYMPTOMS

When you insert forms fields into Word table cells and then change the text direction to vertical, the Form Field Options dialog box does not display the correct bookmark names for the form fields. Instead, it displays the same name for all vertical form fields, Text<n>, where <n> stands for a number that is at least the count of the form fields in the document, incremented by 1.

If you change the form field options for one of the vertical form fields, the number of the form field is again incremented.

When you give user-defined names to the vertical form fields instead of the predefined Text<n> names, these also are changed to a name of the form Text<n>, if you modify the form field orientation.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, use one of the following methods.

Method 1

Do not change the form field options after you change the text direction of the cells that contain the form fields to vertical.

Method 2

Create a FormFieldOptions macro that stores the bookmark name before calling the Form Field Options dialog box and resets the bookmark name afterward.

Steps to Reproduce Problem

Start Word 2000, and open a new blank document.
Insert a 2x3 table.
In each of the cells, insert a Text form field.
Double-click each form field in the first row to see the bookmark name for each field: Text1, Text2, and Text3.
Select the first row.
On the Format menu, click Text Direction.
Select one of the vertical text orientations, and then click OK.
Double-click each form field in the first row again, and view the bookmark names.

Result: All three form fields are now referenced by the same bookmark name, Text7.
Make a change in the dialog box for the first form field in the first row. For example, double-click the first form field, set the Text Format to Uppercase, and then click OK.
Double-click any of the form fields in the first row again.

Result: The name of the bookmark for the form field has changed from Text7 to Text8.
Select the form field that you modified in step 9.
On the Insert menu, click Bookmark. Determine which bookmark name is displayed and selected.

Result: The name of the individual form field, as displayed in the Bookmark dialog box, has changed from Text1 to Text7.
