SYMPTOMS

When you add a 3D effect to a text object in either of the programs listed at the beginning of this article, the text may seem to disappear, although the object handles remain displayed on the screen.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if an invalid value exists in the Direct3D key in the Windows Registry.

RESOLUTION

WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.


  1. Click Start, and then click Run.
  2. In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK.
  3. Open the following registry key:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Direct3d\Drivers

  4. Right-click the EnumNullDevice value, and then click Delete.
  5. When you are prompted to confirm the value deletion, click Yes.
  6. Quit Registry Editor, and then restart the computer.
