SYMPTOMS

When you enable the Remote Desktop Sharing (RDS) feature in NetMeeting, you may receive the following error message:
Internal error, service did not return an error.

CAUSE

This issue can occur for any of the following reasons:
  • You are attempting to start remote desktop sharing manually from the Services section of Administrative Tools, before you run the RDS wizard in Microsoft NetMeeting.
  • There is a user or computer administrative setting that prevents you from creating RDS registry keys when you run the RDS wizard.
  • You do not have administrative permissions to enable RDS on the computer.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, log on to your computer with administrative permissions, run the RDS wizard, and then enable RDS.

MORE INFORMATION

Remote Desktop Sharing (RDS) enables you to use NetMeeting 3.0 to call an unattended computer (host) that is running the RDS service, and then access that computer's shared desktop. After you are connected, you can work in the host's shared desktop, use programs installed on the host computer, and use any network resources to which the host has access.

To use RDS, you need to configure the host computer to run the service. The host is typically a desktop computer with high-speed access to the Internet or LAN. The remote computer could be a laptop or a home computer.
