FIX: COM+ Cannot Add Built-In Localized Groups for Roles (249160)
The information in this article applies to:
This article was previously published under Q249160 SYMPTOMS
When you add built-in groups (for example, Administrators, Power Users, and Guests) to the roles in a COM+ application in some localized versions of Windows 2000 (for example, German or Danish), you get an error message stating that one of the users is invalid and the built-in group fails to be added to the roles.
CAUSE
This error occurs because the string "BUILTIN" is hard-coded in the system .dll files instead of in the system resource.

WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, perform the following steps:
- Click Start, point to Programs, click Administrative tools, and then click Computer Management Expand System tools. Click Local Users and Groups, and then click Groups.
- Create a new group, and add the users that belong to the built-in group to the group.
- Add the new group to the roles of the COM+ application.
NOTE: Although you can create a new group and add the required built-in group directly to this new group using the MS-DOS prompt, when you add this new group to the roles in the COM+ application, it will still give an "Access Denied" error message while it tries to call on the component in that application. You must add the users one by one to the newly created group.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a bug in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
