PPT2000: Administrators Cannot Customize Default HTML Output of Publish Dialog Box (249048)

SYMPTOMS

In PowerPoint 2000, there is no way to customize the default output format to target a particular browser, when publishing or saving as Hypertext Markup Language (HTML).

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain Microsoft Office 2000 Service Release 1/1a (SR-1/SR-1a).

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was corrected in Microsoft Office 2000 SR-1/SR-1a.

The fix included in SR-1 adds the following two registry subkeys:

\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\9.0\PowerPoint\Common\Default Publish\html

and

\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\9.0\PowerPoint\Common\Default Save\html

Publish

The first registry subkey (\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\9.0\PowerPoint\Common\Default Publish\html) sets the default browser support option for the Publish dialog box. You can set the following values for this subkey:
  • 0 means support Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 or later (V4 output)
  • 1 means support All browsers listed above (dual output)
  • 2 means support Microsoft Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator 3.0 or later (V3 output)
If you publish a Web page and this subkey does not exist, then PowerPoint checks the current default browser registered:
  • If the current default browser is not Internet Explorer, then the default browser setting is All browsers listed above.

  • If the current default browser is Internet Explorer version 3.0 or earlier, then the default browser setting is All browsers listed above.

  • If current default browser is Internet Explorer version 4.0 or later, the default browser setting is Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 or later.

Save as Web Page

The second registry subkey (\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\9.0\PowerPoint\Common\Default Save\html) sets the save format (V4 or both) for the Save as Web Page command. You can set the following values for this subkey:
  • 0 means support Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 or later
  • 1 means support All browsers listed above
  • 2 means use an internal value that PowerPoint sets. PowerPoint checks the current default browser on your system and the version of Internet Explorer (if any) to decide V4 or dual format.
If you use the Save as Web Page command and this subkey does not exist, PowerPoint checks the default browser registered:
  • If the current default browser is not Internet Explorer, then the default browser setting is All browsers listed above.

  • If the current default browser is Internet Explorer version 3.0 or earlier, then the default browser setting is All browsers listed above.

  • If the current default browser is Internet Explorer version 4.0 or later, then the default browser setting is Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 or later.
