OFF2000: Program Stops Responding When You Close a File Without Saving (248861)

When you close a Microsoft Word or Microsoft Excel file without first saving the file, the following message appears;
Do you want to save the changes you made to file name?
If you do not respond to the message, and then you try to shut down or restart your computer, the program may stop responding, and you may lose any unsaved data.
You may also receive the following error message after you try to shut down or restart your computer
The system cannot end this program because it is waiting for a response from you. To return to Windows and check the status of your program, click Cancel. If you choose to end the program immediately, you will lose any unsaved data. To end the program now, click End Now.
and you are unable to return to the program.
CAUSE
This behavior occurs if all of the following conditions are true:
- You are using a Microsoft Windows 2000-based computer.
-and- - You have a Word or Excel file open with unsaved data.
-and- - You try to close the file, causing an Office Assistant balloon to appear with a message asking if you want to save the changes that you made in the file.
-and- - Without saving your changes, you try to shut down or restart your computer.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, obtain Microsoft Office 2000 Service Release 1/1a (SR-1/SR-1a).

To temporarily work around this issue, save any open files, and then quit Word or Excel before you shut down your computer.

This problem was corrected in Microsoft Office 2000 SR-1/SR-1a.
