This article was previously published under Q248714 SYMPTOMS
When you open a Norwegian Microsoft Word 97 document that contains indexes in Microsoft Word 2000, and you then proceed to update the indexes, the index entries are sorted incorrectly.
CAUSE
This behavior occurs because Word 2000 does not use the Norwegian sort rules. Instead, it uses the English sort rules.
This behavior occurs even if the locale selected under Regional Settings in Control Panel has been set to either Norwegian (Bokmal) or Norwegian (Nynorsk).
WORKAROUND
To work around this behavior, follow these steps:
- Open your Norwegian document in Word 2000.
- On the Insert menu, click Index and Tables.
- In the Index and Tables dialog box, click the Index tab.
- In the Language box, click to select either Norwegian (Bokmal) or Norwegian (Nynorsk).
- Click OK.
If neither of these languages appear in the Language box, follow these steps:
- Click Start, point to Programs, point to Microsoft Office Tools, and then click Microsoft Office Language Settings.
- In the Show controls and enable editing for box, click to select either the Norwegian(Bokmal) or the Norwegian(Nynorsk) check box, and then click OK.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Word 2000.
