PI2000: Program Stops Responding or Error Message When You Use "Trim Cutout/Cut a Hole" Command (248530)

When you attempt to use the Trim Cutout/Cut a Hole command on the Cutouts & Pictures menu, Picture It! 2000 may stop responding (hang) and the mouse pointer may flash between an arrow and an hourglass shape.
In addition, you may receive several instances of the following error message:
Picture It! Error
There might not be enough memory to complete this operation, or another problem might exist.
Please save your work, restart Picture It!, and try again.
CAUSE
This behavior can occur if you attempt to use the Trim Cutout/Cut a Hole command on an object to which a Photo Stroke Edge or an Art Stroke Edge has been applied.
RESOLUTION
To work around this issue, flatten the object to which you have applied a Photo Stroke Edge or an Art Stroke Edge, and then use the Trim Cutout/Cut a Hole command. To do this:
- Press CTRL+ALT+DELETE to open the Close Program dialog box.
- In the list of running programs, click Microsoft Picture It! 2000, and then click End Task.
- Start Picture It! 2000 again, and open the picture file containing the object to which you have applied a Photo Stroke Edge or an Art Stroke Edge.
- Select the object to which you have applied a Photo Stroke Edge or an Art Stroke Edge.
- On the Special Effects menu, click Picture Putty.
- Click Distort part of the object by hand.
- Under Click an effect, click Shrink.
- Under Click a small ball for a narrow band effect, a larger ball for a wider one, click the smallest ball.
- Click the selected object to apply the Shrink effect.
NOTE: If you click an area in the object that is a solid color, the Shrink effect is not noticeable. - Click Done.
- Use the Trim Cutout/Cut a Hole command to trim or cut the object.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Picture It! 2000.
