PI2000: Installing Both Picture It! and Picture It! Express Installs Duplicate Comic Sans Fonts in Fonts Folder (248517)

SYMPTOMS
If you install Microsoft Picture It! 2000 on a computer on which Microsoft Picture It! Express 2.0 is already installed, duplicates of the following fonts may be installed in the C:\Windows\Fonts folder:
Only one copy of each font file should be installed in this folder.
CAUSE
This behavior occurs because Picture It! Express 2.0 Setup incorrectly registers the Comic Sans fonts, which results in two different registry entries for the same font.
RESOLUTIONWARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may
require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve
problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own
risk.
To resolve this issue:
- Start Registry Editor.
- In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK.
- Open the following registry key:
HKeyLocalMachine\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Currentversion\Fonts - Click to select the Fonts key.
- On the Registry menu, click Export Registry File.
- In the File name box, type Fonts, and then click OK.
NOTE: A backup of the Fonts key named Fonts.reg is created. When you finish following these steps and the programs function correctly, you can delete this file. - In the right pane, click Comic Sans MS (TrueType).
NOTE: Make sure that you click Comic Sans MS (TrueType) and not Comic Sans Ms (True Type). There should be no space between the words "True" and "Type" in the value name. - Press the DELETE key.
- When you are prompted to confirm the value deletion, click Yes.
- Click Comic Sans MS Bold (TrueType).
NOTE: Make sure that you click Comic Sans MS Bold (TrueType) and not Comic Sans Ms Bold (True Type). There should be no space between the words "True" and "Type" in the value name. - Press the DELETE key.
- When you are prompted to confirm the value deletion, click Yes.
- Quit Registry Editor, and then restart the computer.
