MOD2000: Error When You Try to Create an Offline Subscription That Has a Name with an Apostrophe (248289)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to create an offline subscription that has a name that contains an apostrophe ('), you may receive the following Access Workflow Designer error message:

Error:(0x80004005) [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server] Line 1: Incorrect syntax near 's'.

Unable to create the publication. This could be due to server connection problems, inappropriate permissions, or replication configuration issues. If this message appears again, verify that all necessary database objects are included in the publication.

CAUSE

Access Workflow Designer does not support apostrophes in offline subscription (publication) names. However, Microsoft SQL Server does allow apostrophes in publication names.

RESOLUTION

Change the offline subscription (publication) name to one that does not contain an apostrophe.

Steps to Reproduce the Behavior

  1. On the Access Workflow Designer development computer, start the Access Workflow Designer. Select a database that has been registered with the Access Workflow Designer.
  2. In the Object list, click Offline Publications.
  3. Right-click, and then click Add Offline Publication. This starts the Offline Publication Wizard.
  4. On the Welcome page, click Next.
  5. On the Offline Publication Information page, type publication's.
  6. Click Next.
  7. On the Main User Tables page, add the main table (click the check box). Click Next.
  8. On the Offline Permissions page, include the required database role or roles. Click Next.
  9. On the Completing page, click Finish.
