MOD2000: Security Dialog Box Displays Security Information for Wrong Database (248280)

SYMPTOMS

If you have Access Workflow Designer open, then switch back to Access, and then change the connection of the current Access project to some other database, you see the following behavior:
  • The main screen of Access Workflow Designer contains information for the previous database that the Access project was connected to.
  • The Security dialog box in Access Workflow Designer displays security information for the newly connected database.

CAUSE

Access Workflow Designer is not refreshed when you connect to a different database in the project; however, when you open the Security dialog box, it pulls security information about the currently connected database.

RESOLUTION

If you intend to open a different database after you open Access Workflow Designer, switch to Access Workflow Designer and close it before you open the other database from Microsoft Access. Microsoft does not recommend that you change the connection while you have an Access project open that has been registered in Access Workflow Designer.

Steps to Reproduce the Behavior

NOTE: Perform each of the following steps on the Access Workflow Designer development computer.
  1. Open the Team Solutions Manager, and then deploy the Issue Tracking solution sample database.
  2. Open Microsoft Access.
  3. Create a project associated with either the sample Microsoft SQL Server database, pubs, or some other SQL Server database on the server other than the Issue Tracking Solution.
  4. From that project, start Access Workflow Designer.
  5. Register the current project with Access Workflow Designer.
  6. In Access Workflow Designer, on the Tools menu click Database Security. Click the Database Roles tab and note the entries there.
  7. Switch back to the current project in Access. Do not close Access Workflow Designer.
  8. On the File menu, click Connection.
  9. In Step 3 of the Connection dialog box, which says Select the Database on the Server, click the combo box, and then select the Issue Tracking database. Click OK.
  10. Return to Access Workflow Designer.
  11. On the Tools menu, click Database Security. Click the Database Roles tab. Note the addition of the Authors and Readers roles. These are built into the Issue Tracking solution.
