PHD1: Error Message: Setup Has Detected That You Do Not Have an Office 2000 Family Product Installed on This Machine (248251)

SYMPTOMS

The OfficeUpdate Web site offers supplemental graphics filters for use with Microsoft PhotoDraw and Microsoft Word. After you download these filters, when you run the Setup program for the Microsoft Office 2000 Supplemental Graphics Filters, you may receive the following error message:

Setup has detected that you do not have an Office 2000 family product installed on this machine. Before this download can be installed you must first install an Office 2000 family product. To find out which products are part of the Office 2000 family, go to http://officeupdate.microsoft.com/info/o2kprods.htm.

NOTE: The URL in the error message has changed to the following: http://www.microsoft.com/office/

This prevents you from installing the supplemental graphics filters.

CAUSE

The Microsoft Office 2000 Supplemental Graphics Filters download uses Windows Installer as the installation tool. As a result, the download does not work if your computer does not have Windows Installer. PhotoDraw 2000 version 1.0 uses the older ACMSETUP Setup engine, because PhotoDraw 2000 version 1.0 was released in September 1998, before the release of Windows Installer. Thus, if PhotoDraw 2000 version 1.0 is installed on your computer, and no other Office 2000 programs are installed, you encounter this behavior.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, upgrade your computer to any Microsoft program that uses Windows Installer. This includes any Office 2000 program and PhotoDraw 2000 version 2.0.
