When you start your Windows NT 4.0-based computer, you may receive the following error message on a blue screen:
STOP: 0x00000074 (0x00000005, 0x00000003, 0x00000003, 0xC000000D) BAD_SYSTEM_CONFIG_INFO
CAUSE
This issue can occur if the Read-Only attribute has been set on a registry file.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, use the appropriate method:
Windows NT Is Installed on a File Allocation Table (FAT) Volume- Start your computer using an MS-DOS boot disk.
- Use the Attrib.exe command to remove the Read-Only attribute from the registry files located in the %SystemRoot%\System32\Config folder.
- Restart your computer.
Windows NT Is Installed on a Windows NT File System (NTFS) Volume- Install Windows NT to a new folder or drive on the same computer.
- Start your computer, and boot into the new installation of Windows NT.
- Remove the Read-Only attribute from the registry files located in the %SystemRoot%\System32\Config folder of your original installation of Windows NT.
- Restart your computer.
