The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows 2000 Server
- Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server
This article was previously published under Q247930 SYMPTOMS
You may not be able to install some programs properly from a Terminal Services client session. Attempts to do so may generate an error message similar to:
Setup cannot start or configure program name CAUSE
The program's installer may require that some files be located on the target computer (the computer that is running Terminal Services)
when you are installing programs in a Terminal Services client session.
For example, installing Microsoft SQL Server 7.0 in a Terminal Services client session generates the error message.
RESOLUTION
To work around this behavior, install the program on the computer that is running Terminal Services.
For other programs in which a local installation is required, you must change the Terminal Services user mode to Install mode.
