PRB: Cannot Install Some Programs in a Terminal Services Client Session (247930)

SYMPTOMS

You may not be able to install some programs properly from a Terminal Services client session. Attempts to do so may generate an error message similar to:
Setup cannot start or configure program name

CAUSE

The program's installer may require that some files be located on the target computer (the computer that is running Terminal Services) when you are installing programs in a Terminal Services client session.

For example, installing Microsoft SQL Server 7.0 in a Terminal Services client session generates the error message.

RESOLUTION

To work around this behavior, install the program on the computer that is running Terminal Services.
