Error Message After Setting Hibernation on Computer with Modem (247480)

SYMPTOMS

When you click Hibernate from the Shut Down menu after using a modem connection to the Internet, the Microsoft Windows 2000-based computer does not go into hibernation and you receive the following error message:
The device driver for 'Communications Port (2)' is preventing machine from entering hibernation. Please close all programs and try again. If the problem persists you may need to update this driver.
When you close all programs and then click Hibernate again, you receive the same error message.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Windows 2000.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE PROBLEM

  1. In the Power Options tool in Control Panel, click to select the Enable Hibernate Support check box.
  2. Start Internet Explorer, and then start Dial-up Networking.
  3. Configure Dial-up Networking to autodial.
  4. Quit Internet Explorer, and then disconnect the modem.
  5. Click Hibernate on the Shut Down menu.
