Power Scheme Changed to Portable/Laptop After Enabling APM and Upgrading (247234)

SYMPTOMS

When you install Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional on a computer that has advanced power management (APM) disabled, Windows uses the Home/Office Desk power scheme by default. When you enable APM and then modify the Home/Office Desk power scheme, Windows retains that power scheme as the default.

However, when you reinstall or upgrade Windows 2000 after enabling APM, the default power scheme changes to Portable/Laptop in spite of your having previously saved your power scheme.

RESOLUTION

To work around this issue, manually select the power scheme you saved.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional.

MORE INFORMATION

You are able to manually select the power scheme you saved because the system preserves your changes to that power scheme even though it selects the Portable/Laptop power scheme by default.
