Infrared Device Does Not Work on Dell Latitude XPiCD with Windows 2000 (247169)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional
This article was previously published under Q247169 SYMPTOMS
After you install Microsoft Windows 2000 on a Dell Latitude XPiCD computer with an ESS 1887 Plug and Play (PnP) Audiodrive sound device, the infrared device on the computer does not work.
CAUSE
This behavior occurs because the Windows 2000 Setup program assigns three direct memory access (DMA) channels (00, 01, and 03) to the ESS 1887 PnP Audiodrive sound device, leaving no DMA resources available for the infrared device.
RESOLUTION
To work around this issue, use Device Manager to manually configure the ESS 1887 PnP Audiodrive sound device to use only two DMA channels. This makes one channel available to the infrared device when you restart the computer.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Windows 2000.
