Access Denied Error When You Connect to a DFS Share (246888)

When you gain access to a Distributed File System (DFS) link through the local file system, you may receive the following error message:
DRIVE:FOLDER\DFSLINKFOLDER is not accessible. Access is denied. CAUSE
This issue can occur because Windows 2000 uses local file system placeholders below the shared DFS root folder to repesent DFS links. You cannot open the placeholders by using the local file system, you can only open them by using the DFS sharepoint.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue gain access to the shared resources by browsing to the server's share rather than through the local file system.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
