No Warning When Web Sites with Conflicting Bindings are Created (246858)

SYMPTOMS

When you change the bindings of a Web site--that is, its Internet Protocol (IP) address and Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) port--but you do not first stop the Web site, Microsoft Management Console (MMC) does not warn you when your changes create a conflict with another Web site on the same server. As a result, two conflicting Web sites run. This occurs on a computer running Microsoft Windows 2000 Server.

RESOLUTION

To work around this behavior, stop the Web site before you change the TCP port or IP address. Then restart the Web site.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Windows 2000 Server.

MORE INFORMATION

When you stop the Web site before you change its bindings, the MMC still does not warn you when you create a conflict, but you cannot start the conflicting site.
