WD2000: Unable to Select Microsoft Fax in Fax Wizard (246769)

SYMPTOMS

When you use the Fax Wizard in Microsoft Word 2000, Microsoft Fax is unavailable (dimmed).

NOTE: To start the Fax Wizard, click New on the File menu. On the Letters & Faxes tab, click to select Fax Wizard, and click OK.

CAUSE

This is a design limitation of the Fax Wizard in Microsoft Word 2000.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, do the following. In the Fax Software dialog box of the Fax Wizard, click to select A different fax program which is installed on this system. Then do one of the following:
  • Change the Which of the following is your fax program box to Microsoft Fax.

    -or-
  • Click Other. In the Print Setup dialog box, click to select Microsoft Fax, click Set as Default Printer, and then click Close.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
