Music Plays from CD-ROM Drive with No Audio Cable Installed (246650)

When you put a CD-ROM in a CD-ROM drive that you usually use for data CDs, you may notice that the CD-ROM drive plays the sound files on that CD even though there is not an audio cable attached to that CD-ROM drive.
CAUSE
This behavior may occur if your sound card driver supports Digital Audio Extraction functionality.
WORKAROUND
To work around this behavior, disable the Digital CD Audio feature in the properties of the CD-ROM drive:
- Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
- Double-click System, click the Device Manager tab, and then double-click CDROM to expand the branch.
- Click the CD-ROM drive, click Properties, and then click the Properties tab.
- Click to clear the Enable Digital CD Audio check box, click OK, and then click OK again to close the System Properties dialog box.
Steps to Reproduce the Problem- Install 2 CD-ROM drives. Configure one with an audio cable, speakers, and so forth. Configure the other CD-ROM drive up to handle only data CDs.
- Install Millennium.
- Put an audio CD in the data CD-ROM drive and listen to the music.

- SCSI: HP CD-Writer 6020i
- SCSI: TEAC CD-ROM CD-532S
CD-ROMS that do not support this feature (as reported in the newsgroups):
- SCSI: TOSHIBA CD-ROM XM-3501TA
