SYMPTOMS
When you try to install a program, you may receive the following error message:
Existing software was not fully installed. To fix this problem, click
Details.
When you click Details, the information suggests that you restart the computer.
CAUSE
This behavior can occur if there is an entry under the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Runonce
This can be caused by an installation routine that schedules an event to take place at the next restart.
RESOLUTIONWARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may
require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve
problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own
risk.
To resolve this issue, restart the computer and log back on. If this does not work, you can manually remove the entry under the registry key. Before you do this, you may want to back up the data under the key.
