CAUSE This behavior can occur if the registry is large when you
attempt to install PWS or MTS. RESOLUTION To work around this issue, download the updated version of
the Mtssetup.dll file, and then reinstall PWS or MTS. To do this:
- Uninstall PWS or MTS.
- Click Start, point to Settings, click Folder Options, and then click the View tab.
- Click Show All Files.
- Create a temporary folder named Temp on drive C of your
hard disk.
- Copy the MTS or PWS Setup files from the CD-ROM (or from
another location from which you originally installed them) to the Temp folder.
For example, if you installed MTS or PWS from the Windows 98 CD-ROM, copy the
files from the Add-ons\PWS folder to the Temp folder that you just
created.
- Download the updated Mtssetup.exe, which contains the
updated Mtssetup.dll file, from Microsoft Download Center (click the link in
the "Download Mtssetup" section in this article).
- Double-click Mtssetup.exe to extract the Mtssetup.dll file.
- Replace the Mtssetup.dll file in the Temp folder with the
file that you downloaded in step 6. Note that this file should be version
1997.11.532.0 and 622,592 bytes in size.
- Run Setup.exe from the Temp folder, and then install PWS or
MTS.
