PRJ2000: Group Summary Row Blank When Grouped by Customizable Field (245961)

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Project, when you group your project by a customizable field, the group summary row values for that field may be blank.

To apply a group, point to Group by on the Project menu, and then click the appropriate group.

The following fields are the customizable fields that may show this behavior:

Cost1 - Cost10
Date1 - Date10
Duration1 - Duration10
Finish1 - Finish10
Number1 - Number10
Start1 - Start10
Text1 - Text10

CAUSE

This behavior occurs when you group a project based on a customizable field, and you have customized any customizable field with any of the following:
  • Custom attributes
    • Value List or Formula

  • Calculation for task and group summary rows
    • Rollup or Use Formula

  • Values to display
    • Graphical Indicators

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, you can roll up values to the group summary row for the field that you grouped by. To do this, follow these steps:

NOTE: There is no workaround for the custom Text fields or Outline Code fields.
  1. On the Tools menu, point to Customize, and then click Fields.
  2. Select the field that you are grouping by.
  3. Under Calculation for task and group summary rows, click Rollup.
  4. In the Rollup list, click Max, Min, or Average.

    Any item will display the value that you are grouping by.
  5. Click OK.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
