PRJ: Task Is Scheduled from a Date That Is Different from the Project Start Date (245957)

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Project, tasks that have no predecessors or constraints may be scheduled from a start date that is different from the project start date that is found in the Project Information dialog box.

CAUSE

This behavior may occur when you do the following:
  1. You insert two or more projects into a master project.
  2. You create a predecessor/successor link between the inserted project summary tasks.
  3. You do one of the following:
    1. With the inserted projects open in separate windows, you close the master project without saving it, and then you save changes to the projects that were inserted in the master project.

      -or-
    2. With the inserted projects not open in separate windows, you close the master project without saving it, and you click Yes or Yes to All when prompted whether to save changes to the projects that you inserted in the master project.

      -or-
    3. You save and close the master project and subprojects, and then you delete the master project.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, follow these steps:
  1. On the Project menu, click Project Information.
  2. In the Start date box, delete the date.
  3. Type the correct start date for the project.

    NOTE: This may be the same date that you deleted.
  4. Click OK.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
