SYMPTOMS
In Microsoft Project 2000, when you assign a material resource and type a percentage for its units value, you may see inconsistent behavior depending on where you assign the resource.
In the Resource Assignment Dialog Box or Resource Names Field
The percentage value is converted to a decimal value. For example,
25% is converted to
.25. No warning or error message is generated.
In the Task Information Dialog Box on the Resources Tab
You receive the following error message
This is not a valid Units value.
For Work type resources (such as people or machinery), type a positive number between 0 and 60,000,000 (or 6,000,000,000 percent) with up to two decimal places.
Material type resource assignments (such as consumable materials like fuel or cement) can be either fixed or variable. For a fixed material resource assignment, type the units value alone. For example, "10" would mean "10 tons", if your material label was, for example, "tons".
For a variable material resource assignment, type the units value, a slash (/), and the abbreviation for the time period at which the unit value is accrued. For example, "12/w" would mean "12 tons per week".
