PRJ: Task Progress Bar Does Not Show Progress as Expected (245924)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Project 2000
  • Microsoft Project 98 for Windows

This article was previously published under Q245924

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Project, in a Gantt Chart view, task progress bars may not be drawn to show as much progress as expected.

For example, a task progress bar may imply a task is 10 percent complete when the % Complete field indicates that it is really 50 percent complete.

CAUSE

This problem may occur when the following conditions are true:
  • Your project is scheduled from the finish.

  • The affected task is a predecessor of another task.

  • The successor of the affected task had a percent complete value before you increased the percent complete for the affected task.

  • The affected task has a percent complete value greater than zero and less than 100.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, follow these steps:
  1. In the Gantt Chart view, click Bar Styles on the Format menu.
  2. Select the Progress bar style.
  3. Click Cut Row.
  4. Click Paste Row.
  5. Click Paste Row a second time.
  6. For the second progress bar, in the To column, change Complete Through to % Complete.

If the Gantt Chart view has multiple progress bars, repeat steps 2-5 for each progress bar. If you don't want the additional progress bars to appear in the legend, delete the name in the Name column.
  7. Click OK.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
