PRJ: Non-White Text Printed as Black on Black and White Printers (245895)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Project 2000
- Microsoft Project 98 for Windows
This article was previously published under Q245895 SYMPTOMSIn Microsoft Project 98 or 2000
In Microsoft Project, when you print a view, text that is formatted with a color other than white is printed as black when you print to a black and white printer.
For example, when you print a Gantt Chart view that has text formatted as yellow, you may expect the yellow text to be printed as a shade of gray on a black and white printer; instead it is printed as black.
In Microsoft Project 2000 Only
In a view where you have applied a group, it may appear that text in the group rows is not printed.
For example, in the Group Definition dialog box, under the Group By Setting label, you select the color black for the cell background, the solid pattern, and a font color of yellow (any color other than white). When you print on a black and white printer, you cannot see the text because the text is printed as black (rather than a shade of gray) on a black background.
CAUSE
When you print to a black and white printer, Microsoft Project prints black text for text that is formatted a color other than black or white.
NOTE: The Network Diagram view prints colored text in shades of gray on black and white printers.
WORKAROUND
To differentiate text from other text when printing on a black and white printer, use either of the following methods to format the text with something other than a color. For example, use the italic format or a different font style.
Method 1
To format text based on a category, follow these steps: - On the Format menu, click Text Styles.
- Click the appropriate item in the Item to Change list.
- Select from the format choices Font, Font Style, Size, and Underline to differentiate this item from other items.
- Click OK.
For example, click the Highlight item in step 2 and click Italic in the Font Style list in step 3. Then, when you apply a highlight filter, the text is italicized.
Method 2
To format selected text, follow these steps:
- Select the cell or cells that contain the text you want to format.
- On the Format menu, click Font.
- Select from the format choices Font, Font Style, Size, and Underline.
- Click OK.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
