PRJ98: "File Format Is Not Valid. Use a Different File for This Situation." Error When You Insert a Project (245839)

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Project 98, when you insert one project into another project, you may receive the following error message:
The file format is not valid. Use a different file for this situation.

CAUSE

This behavior may occur when the following conditions are true:
  1. You install Microsoft Project 98.
  2. On the same computer, you install Microsoft Project 2000.
  3. In Microsoft Project 98, you insert one project into another project.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, do not install Microsoft Project 98 concurrently with Microsoft Project 2000 on the same computer. This configuration is not supported by Microsoft Product Support Services.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
