SBS: Event ID 202 No License for Product NT Server (245823)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft BackOffice Small Business Server 4.0
- Microsoft BackOffice Small Business Server 4.5
This article was previously published under Q245823 SYMPTOMS
You may receive the following error message in the Application event log of the Small Business Server:
Event ID 202
Source: LicenseService
Description: The product Windows NT Server is out of licenses. Use License Manager from the Administrative Tools folder for more information on which users are out of compliance and how many licenses should be purchased.
CAUSE
This error message can occur if a Windows NT Member Server was installed with per seat licensing and you have not added any licenses to the member server.
Every time a user accesses a file or print share on the member server the event id 202 is recorded. The application event log of the member server also records the same error message.
MORE INFORMATION
Small Business Server is set up using per server licensing mode, so the SBS client access licenses are only used to gain access to the Small Business Server. The SBS licenses do not provide for gaining access to a member server. You must purchase additional Windows NT Client Access Licenses and use Control Panel Licensing on the member server to add the licenses. You must purchase a license for each user who needs to gain access to the member server.
