This article was previously published under Q245808 SYMPTOMS
You may receive a prompt to choose which hardware profile to use when starting into Windows 2000, even if only one profile exists on your Windows 2000-based computer.
CAUSE
This behavior occurs because Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 files (Ntldr and Ntdetect.com) are being used to start Windows 2000.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this behavior, replace the Ntldr and Ntdetect.com files under the root of the boot partition with the correct versions for Windows 2000.
