DSS80 Err Msg: The Software Needed to Use the USB Device Microsoft Digital Sound System 80 Cannot Be Found (245788)

SYMPTOMS

When you connect the Microsoft Digital Sound System 80 to the universal serial bus (USB) port on a Macintosh computer, you may receive the following error message:
The software to use the USB Device "Microsoft Digital Sound System 80" can not be found. Please refer to the device documentation to install the necessary software.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if you attempt to connect the Digital Sound System 80 to a Macintosh computer running Mac OS version 8.x or earlier.

Mac OS version 8.x or earlier does not include the USB Device Extension. The USB Device Extension is a component of the Mac OS 9 operating system.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, install the Mac OS 9 operating system.
