Setup Shows "(Mirror):\Winnt" as an Existing Installation of Windows 2000 (245728)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows 2000 Server
- Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server
- Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional
This article was previously published under Q245728 SYMPTOMS
When you are installing Windows 2000 from CD-ROM, Text-mode Setup searches for pre-existing installations. If Setup locates any installations of Windows 2000, it prompts you to either repair the installations or continue with a fresh installation. In some cases, you may see
"(mirror):\%SystemRoot%"
listed as one of the pre-existing installations. The correct format is Drive:\Winnt, where Drive is the letter of the drive on which Windows 2000 is installed.
CAUSE
Text-mode Setup assumes that a partition is a mirror if the partition does not have a drive letter. This may occur because the installation is on removable media.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
