BUG: Running SQLDIAG.EXE Produces an Internal Error in the Application Event Log - EventID 998 (245556)

SYMPTOMS

Every time SQLDIAG.EXE is run, two stop messages are reported in the Application Log of the Windows Event Viewer. These error messages do NOT abort the SQLDIAG.EXE process and valid output is still produced. The error messages that occur are:
