Riprep.exe Images with DEC 500AA or 500BA or 3C920 Do Not Join Domain (245263)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Server
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional

This article was previously published under Q245263

SYMPTOMS

When you are installing a Riprep.exe image on a computer that either has a DEC 500AA or 500BA network adapter or is a HP ePC with a 3C920 onboard network adapter, the computer may not join the domain during the mini-Setup wizard phase of the installation.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because the network adapter is not initialized before the computer attempts to join the domain.

RESOLUTION

If the computer does not join the domain, click No when you are prompted whether you want to continue and join a domain later. When you are prompted for your credentials, type the credentials you used when you logged on to the Client Installation Wizard.

If you need an automated solution, you can add a [GUIRunOnce] section to the Riprep.sif file located in the RemoteInstall\Setup\Language\Images\Folder_name\i386\Templates folder. In this section, add a command that uses the Netdom.exe tool from the Windows 2000 Resource Kit to join the system to the domain. For information about using the Netdom.exe tool, please consult the Windows 2000 Resource kit.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
