XCON: How SMTP Connectors Process Wildcards in Address Space Entries (244986)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server
This article was previously published under Q244986 SUMMARY
When the address matching algorithm reads address spaces on SMTP connectors, it only looks up to the first wildcard that it encounters in the address space entry. Thus, the two address space entries *.company.com and abc.*.company.com are both interpreted as *.company.com.
MORE INFORMATION
If there are two SMTP connectors with abc.*.company.com and *.company.com address spaces, an attempt to get the next hop information for the domain, sales.company.com, returns the first connector read in from the directory because they both match equally well. If the costs associated with two connectors are different, then the lower cost route is used for routing messages.
