FTP Error 550 When Using Web Folder View and FTP Home Folders (244778)

SYMPTOMS

When you open an FTP site by using the following syntax with Internet Explorer with Web-based FTP enabled, you receive FTP error 550 if you have a home folder specified:

ftp://User:Password@ftp.address.com/User

The site opens, but if you attempt to change to any subfolder within the your defined folder, the following error message occurs:
Extended Server Error Message :
200 Type set to I.
200 PORT command successful.
550 /User/User/SubFolder/: No such file or directory.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, upgrade to Internet Explorer 5.01. You can obtain Internet Explorer 5.01 from the following Microsoft Web site:

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

This problem was corrected in Internet Explorer 5.01.

MORE INFORMATION

When you receive the 550 error message, you may want to use the Ftp.exe client to determine whether you can actually gain access to the directory.
