How To Install the File Copy Tool Included with the Windows 2000 Resource Kit (244732)

SUMMARY

This article describes how to install the File Copy tool included with the Microsoft Windows 2000 Resource Kit. The File Copy tool adds file transfer functionality to the clipboard redirection feature in Microsoft Terminal Services. This tool can be used on client computers running Microsoft Windows for Workgroups, Microsoft Windows 95, Microsoft Windows 98, Microsoft Windows NT 4.0, and Windows 2000.

To make the File Copy tool work, you need to make changes on the Windows 2000 Server as well as each client.

Windows 2000 Server

1. Install the Windows 2000 Resource Kit.
2. Download and install "Rdpclip_hotfix.exe" from the following Microsoft Web site:

   http://download.microsoft.com/download/win2000platform/rdpclip/1.0/NT5/EN-US/rdpclip_hotfix.exe

3. Check the follow files and version numbers:

   C:\Program Files\Resource Kit\rdpclip.exe    5.0.2205.1
   C:\Program Files\Resource Kit\fxfr.dll       5.0.2064.1
   C:\Program Files\Resource Kit\rdpdr.dll      5.0.2205.1
   						

   NOTE: The path that the reskit is installed in can vary.
4. Open Regedt32, and then change the value data in the Name value from RDPCLIP to FXRDPCLP in the following registry key:

   HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server\AddIns\Clip Redirector

5. Change the value data in the Startup Programs value from RDPCLIP to FXRDPCLP in the following registry key:

   HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server\Wds\rdpwd

   NOTE: If you have installed Drive Share, change the value data in the Startup Programs value to RDPCLIP,DRMAPSRV.
   
   
6. Rename the new Rdpclip.exe file (located in the resource kit folder) included in the Windows 2000 Resource Kit to Fxrdpclp.exe, and then copy the file to the Winnt\System32 folder.
7. Copy the Fxfr.dll file (located in the resource kit folder) to the Winnt\System32 folder.
8. Restart the computer.

For the Windows for Workgroups Clients

1. Copy the 16-bit Fxfr.dll file to the Tsclient folder.
2. Rename the Rdpdr.dll file in the Tsclient folder to Rdpdr.pss.
3. Copy the 16-bit Rdpdr.dll file to the Tsclient folder.

For the Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows NT, or Windows 2000 Clients

1. Copy the 32-bit Fxfr.dll file to the "Program Files\Terminal Services Client" folder.
2. Rename the Rdpdr.dll file in the "Program Files\Terminal Services Client" folder to Rdpdr.pss.
3. Copy the 32-bit Rdpdr.dll file to the "Program Files\Terminal Services Client" folder.

IMPORTANT: The files and instructions for installing Rdpclip.exe in this article only apply to the original Windows 2000 Terminal Services client. Do not use these instructions if you are using the Terminal Services client that ships as part of Service Pack 1 (also known as the Terminal Services Advanced client or TSAC) or the Remote Desktop Connection client that can be downloaded from the Web.
