PPT: Unable to Save Presentation After a Second User Opens Same Presentation (244609)

When you try to save a PowerPoint presentation that you have opened and changed, you may receive the following message:
presentation name.ppt is currently in use. PowerPoint can't modify it at this time.
CAUSE
This problem occurs when the following conditions are true:
- The PowerPoint presentation is located on a file server where one user has read-only file permissions to the presentation, but another user has full permissions.
- The user with full permissions (User A) opens the file.
- The user with read-only permissions (User B) opens the file.
PowerPoint does not detect that User B is restricted to read-only permissions, but because PowerPoint cannot open the file as read/write, it opens the file as read-only. - User A tries to save the file.
Because PowerPoint cannot obtain the read/write permission that it needs to save the file, User A receives the error message described in the "Symptoms" section of this article.
