  • Microsoft Publisher 2000

This article was previously published under Q244483

SYMPTOMS

When you use the Marlett font to create a bulleted list in Microsoft Word or Microsoft Publisher, two box characters or a bullet and a box character appear instead of a single bullet character.

NOTE: The incorrect bullet characters are printed as they appear on screen.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if one of the built-in bullet and numbering formats has been changed using a character in the Marlett font. The Marlett TrueType font is used for displaying scroll arrows, Maximize and Minimize buttons, option buttons, check boxes, and other controls in Microsoft Windows.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, use either of the following methods.

Method 1

Use the Symbol font to insert the bullet character. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Select the bulleted list, and then click Bullets and Numbering on the Format menu.
  2. On the Bulleted tab, click the bulleted list that you want to change.
  3. Click Customize, and then click Font.
  4. Click Symbol, and then click OK.

Method 2

To use a bullet from another font, follow these steps:
  1. Select the bulleted list, and then click Bullets and Numbering on the Format menu.
  2. On the Bulleted tab, click the bulleted list that you want to change.
  3. Click Customize, and then click Bullet.
  4. Select a font in the Font box. Select the bullet character that you want to use, and then click OK.
