WD97: Table Is Corrupted After Saving in Word 6.0/95 Format (244434)

SYMPTOMS

Saving a document in Word 6.0/95 format results in a corrupted document if the document contains a table and a floating picture is anchored in a table row. If you reopen the document in Word 97 and switch to normal view, Word may stop responding (hang), or an access violation may occur. Documents opened in Word 95 or Word 6.0 contain duplicate copies of the floating picture.

RESOLUTION

To resolve the problem described in this article, obtain and install the latest Microsoft Word 97 update from the following Microsoft Web site: IMPORTANT NOTE: Microsoft Word 97 post-service release fixes are cumulative. The latest update contains all of the fixes since Service Release 2. If you install the latest update for Word 97, you do not need to install any other updates after Service Release 2.
