SYMPTOMS

When you try to use the IntelliMouse scroll wheel in Microsoft PowerPoint 2000, PowerPoint may stop responding (hang).

CAUSE

The cause for this problem is unknown at this time, though it may be due to conflicts with the IntelliPoint software driver that is included with the Microsoft IntelliMouse.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, turn off the IntelliPoint Mouse features. (You can still use the mouse as a normal mouse.) To do this, follow these steps.

NOTE: Because there are several versions of Microsoft Windows, the following steps may be different on your computer. If they are, see your product documentation to complete these steps.
  1. On the Start menu, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click the Mouse icon. This opens the settings for the IntelliMouse.
  3. Click the Wheel tab.
  4. Under Universal Scrolling, click Exception.
  5. Click Add. Browse to the location of the PowerPoint program file (Powerpnt.exe), and click the file name.
  6. Click Open. Click Close, and then click OK.
This turns off the mouse wheel for the PowerPoint program only.
