XFOR: Instant Messaging Taskbar Button Does Not Flash When Recipient Status Is Busy or On the Phone (244304)

SYMPTOMS

When you send a message to another person using Instant Messaging, the flashing taskbar button may not appear. Instead, the taskbar button is displayed in the taskbar as usual, but it is only highlighted and not flashing.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs when an Instant Messaging user has set their presence status to Busy or On the Phone. Instant Messaging does not allow visual distractions to occur when the Busy or On the Phone status is selected. When the Instant Messaging screen is minimized, and the user's status is Busy or On the Phone, the taskbar will flash once and then go solid. Also there will be no sound.
