SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to save a speed dial entry that has a phone number with more than 46 characters in the Phone Dialer utility, you may receive the following error message:
An application error has occurred and an application error log is being generated.

Exception: access violation (0xC0000005), Address:
After this error message occurs, you cannot start the Phone Dialer utility until you delete the incorrect speed dial entry from the Dialer.ini file located in the %SystemRoot% folder.

RESOLUTION

A supported fix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Apply it only to computers that are experiencing this specific problem.
