SYMPTOMS

When you press the Volume + or the Volume - hot keys on one of the Microsoft keyboards listed in the "Applies To" section, the sound volume remains unchanged. The volume settings in the Volume On-Screen Display dialog box, which is displayed when you first press one of the volume hot keys, does change, even though the actual sound does not.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if the following conditions are true:
  • The Microsoft Digital Sound System 80 speakers are connected to your computer through a USB port.
  • You are using the Microsoft IntelliType Pro software version 1.0.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, download and install the Microsoft IntelliType Pro software version 2.1 from the following Microsoft Web site:
