The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional

This article was previously published under Q243308

SYMPTOMS

When you try to start Microsoft NetMeeting after you upgrade to Windows 2000, you may experience one or more of the following symptoms:
  • The program may disappear.
  • NetMeeting may generate an error message referring to Conf.exe.
  • You may not receive any error messages, but NetMeeting may not work correctly.

CAUSE

This problem can occur because Windows 2000 installs NetMeeting version 3.01 to the "Program Files\Netmeeting" folder, but it leaves the shortcuts pointing to the "Program Files\Netmeetingnt" folder and the prior version of NetMeeting (which may not run on Windows 2000).

RESOLUTION

To work around this problem, update the NetMeeting shortcuts to run from the "Program Files\Netmeeting" folder. Note that you can also delete the prior installation of NetMeeting in the the "Program Files\Netmeetingnt" folder.

To run Windows NetMeeting 3.01 on a computer running Windows 2000:
  1. Click Start, and then click Run.
  2. In the Open box, type conf.exe, and then click OK.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
