This article discusses the limits placed on the subscription list size of the Instant Messaging server.

In Exchange 2000, Instant Messaging clients have the ability to add Instant Messaging contacts in order to facilitate peer-to-peer communication as well as presence information. The maximum number of contacts that may be added is limited to 512.

Also, because of this limitation, the Instant Messaging client has a maximum amount of 512 concurrent logons to its Instant Messaging server as well.
