This article describes how to send a hyperlink to an America Online (AOL) user from Outlook Express.

Hyperlinks embedded into Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) e-mail sent from Outlook Express do not translate correctly through AOL's e-mail system. The hyperlinks arrive as source code in the source section of the e-mail. The text-only format is displayed correctly, but the links are not sent as hyperlinks.

To correctly send a hyperlink to an AOL user:
  1. Start Outlook Express.
  2. On the Tools menu, click Options.
  3. On the Send tab, click Text Only.
  4. Send a test link (preferably on its own line) using the following format:
    <A HREF="http://www.microsoft.com">http://www.microsoft.com</A>
This example creates a hyperlink (www.microsoft.com) when you send a message to an AOL user from Outlook Express.
