Remote Proxy Administration Does Not Work After Proxy 2.0 SP1 Is Installed (243079)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Proxy Server 2.0
This article was previously published under Q243079 SYMPTOMS
After you install Microsoft Proxy Server 2.0 Service Pack 1 (SP1), remote administration with Microsoft Management Console (MMC) does not work when you attempt to administer the Proxy server from a Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 workstation or from another Microsoft Proxy server that does not have SP1 installed.
Attempting to administer a Proxy 2.0 SP1 server may generate the following error message:
There is a version conflict between the administrator client and the server. You will be able to administer the server but administration process may not work completely.
Client Version: 3.0.372
Server Version 3.0.390
CAUSE
The Mspui.dll file is updated by Proxy 2.0 SP1. The version of the Mspui.dll file must be the same on both the server and the administration client for remote administration to be successful.
RESOLUTION
If you are attempting remote administration from another Proxy 2.0 server, upgrade the remote server to SP1 also.
If you are attempting remote administration from a Windows NT 4.0 workstation, copy the new Mspui.dll file from the server to the workstation and replace the older version. Reboot the workstation after replacing the file to register the dynamic-link library (DLL). |
Mspui.dll | No | 2.0.372.12 | Mspui.dll | Yes | 2.0.389.12 |
WORKAROUND
The Proxy 2.0 Web-based Administration tool does not rely on the Mspui.dll file and does not generate the error message. Administrators can use the Web-based Administration tool to remotely configure a Proxy 2.0 server by using a Web browser. This tool is available for download from the following Microsoft Web site:
