SYMPTOMS

If you are using Hewlett-Packard Transport Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) print monitor software, the port configured for your printer may change after you install an additional printer. For example, if your first printer is configured to use a port named "HP3" and you install a second printer to a port called HP4, the first printer port may be renamed to "HP4".

CAUSE

This issue can occur if you add a custom port and choose a name for this port that begins with the same character as an existing port.

RESOLUTION

To work around this issue, verify that all of your custom ports begin with unique characters in their name.

NOTE: This issue does not affect printing in any way.
